I’ve just returned from a trip to Spain, where I attended the International Conference on Thinking (ICOT2015) in Bilbao. I enjoyed hearing from people all over the world what they are doing and how they view what it means to educate and be educated. One finding that struck me as different, although most of what I heard resonated with our challenges and issues, was that many countries don’t start mandatory schooling until age 7 and end with the ninth grade. Schooling after that is voluntary, though most do attend. This includes Sweden, Finland, and Spain. I thought I’d share a few findings at the conference that made me think!
